Open Days – 9th European Week of Regions and Cities
This year’s Open Days with the main theme “Investing in Europe’s future: Regions and cities delivering smart, sustainable and inclusive growth” are taking place in Brussels from 10th to 13th of October. The international politicians and experts are going to debate on the future of the European Union and its cohesion policy.
The event is providing about 100 sessions, including different workshops, debates, exhibitions and networking opportunities for about 6000 participants expected to come toBrussels. Among them, there is a number of workshops and debates about urban related issues taking place such as for example: “Urban Europe: Towards an urban dimension of future cohesion policy” or “The urban dimension of EU Cohesion Policy” with the participation of Jan Olbrycht, President of the URBAN Intergroup.
The event is organized by the Committee of the Regions and the European Commission, Directorate-General for Regional Policy in partnership with the European Parliament, EU Presidency and 206 regional and cities from 35 countries.
Summer workshop “La Defense 2050 – beyond urban forms”
On behalf of the URBAN Intergroup Jan Olbrycht will be member of the international jury of “La Defense 2050” in Cergy-Pontoise. The jury will select the winners of the workshop whose aim was to create a new restructuring plan for Paris district La Defense.
Workshop participants had four weeks to prepare a project in which they had to take into account environmental, economic and social issues connected to the restructuring of the La Defence district. Their task was to answer the questions such as for example: what new forms of business will rise by 2050 and what facilities they will need, and also what is the potential for development of the La Defense district in the metropolis such as Paris. Finished projects will be evaluated by international experts during 5 days. The workshop is organized by a French association Les Ateliers.
