“Cities of Tomorrow” report presented!
Johannes Hahn presented this week the report “Cities of Tomorrow: challenges, visions, ways forward.” at the conference “Effective Instruments Supporting Territorial Development” that took place in Warsaw.
The report touches upon three main issues. The first part shows the European model of urban development, the second one discusses the opportunities, challenges, strengths and weaknesses of this model, the third part presents the governance challenges of the cities of tomorrow. Moreover, the report includes 10 good practice case studies of cities tackling common challenges in environmental, economic, social and governance terms.
The report is the outcome of the discussions of urban experts and practitioners who were gathered together to discuss the future of cities in Europe. It is suppose to contribute to the discussion about the urban dimension of the cohesion policy post 2013.
URBAN Intergroup represented at the conference “Effective Instruments Supporting Territorial Development” in Warsaw
Two-day-long conference about effective instruments supporting territorial development begun today in Warsaw. The URBAN Intergroup is represented by its President Jan Olbrycht who takled about the urban dimension in the recently proposed regulations for cohesion policy after 2013.
The main objective of the conference is to exchange views and opinions between experts in the area of cohesion policy in the context of the territorial dimension and to indicate possible improvements in cohesion policy post 2013. Moreover, it is planned to gather recommendations and conclusions at the end of the discussion in order to create, improve and implement more effective instruments that can be used in designing integrated and territorially sensitive development of the EU model.
The Conference was organised as an initiative of the Polish Presidency to the Council of European Union by the Polish Ministry of Regional Development.
